The Role:

Supporting the Research & Development Engineering team at Solentim, this role will facilitate the research, design and deployment of new machine learning models.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Champion the infrastructure roadmap for upcoming projects
  • Research, design and deploy new machine learning models
  • Plan and manage benchmarking tests for new machine learning models
  • Manage AI-model codebases from research to production level
  • Communicate results of the research and tests to the rest of the R&D team
  • Implement state of the art computer vision models and evaluate performance against key business objectives, introducing research prototypes and features into Solentim’s portfolio of market leading instruments

Experience & Background:

  • Passion for Biology focused AI/Computer Vision
  • Previous experience developing and delivering robust software solutions, including advanced programming expertise in Python
  • Deep knowledge of convolutional models and latest techniques with 2-3 years’ experience with any of the major deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow), including familiarity with ONNX
  • Demonstrable industry experience of delivering computer vision-based AI projects (preferably in biotech)
  • MSc or higher in CompSci, Mathematics, Physics, AI, Computational Biology or any other relevant quantitative discipline, or equivalent masters level work experience delivering AI/ML solutions
  • Strong software engineering practices such as familiarity with Git, DevOps
  • Producing reports and presenting results as required
  • Knowledge of biotech industry with focus on cell development practices. Bonus for having experience applying ML/AI to microscope images or biological problems
  • Must be continuously observant with high attention to detail and the ability to notice abnormalities in information
  • Ability to work in a methodical and organised manner and keep detailed records of all work carried out
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel and Word
  • High levels of self-organisation, with the ability to effectively manage and plan your own workload and use initiative to forward plan and prepare for upcoming activities
  • Ability to readily absorb sometimes complex bioinformatic concepts
  • Pro-active and a strong team player with the ability to interact well with staff at all levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create clear, concise reports and present key findings in a manner appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and deliver to deadlines
